All human beings, created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), inherently have a need for relationships—both with God (the Creator) and with other people. Humans have a desire to be noticed and loved. Through God’s grace and help, we should pay attention to one another, love one another, and help the people God has placed in our lives.
The same is true of the church community: there should be care and love among God’s people—whether church members, visitors, or those attending church for the first time. This is one way for the church to move forward: to watch over, remind, and love one another within the congregation. It is also one way the church introduces God to the world, proclaims the Gospel, and glorifies God’s name.
At GRII Sydney, in addition to members caring for and loving one another, a team has been formed for the areas of congregational care and visitation.
The GRII Sydney care team is:
- A team that strives to proclaim the Gospel by welcoming people and helping them feel at home when they come to GRII Sydney—both first-time attendees and those who have been worshiping at GRII Sydney.
- A team that pays attention to the needs of the congregation and provides assistance to those in need.
To facilitate approachability and relationships with one another, the care team consists of people from the senior, family, worker, and youth groups. In addition to age groups and activities, the care team also has language groups (Indonesian, English, and Chinese).
In addition to welcoming, caring for, and helping the congregation, the following are some of the ministries carried out by the care team:
PRAYER
Praying for the congregation—both those attending church for the first time and those who attend weekly. Praying for prayer requests collected from the congregation and from first-time attendees.
FOLLOW-UP
Everyone attending church for the first time will be given a personal information form to fill out. Along with the form, they will also receive a tract and details of the church’s worship/fellowship schedule.
The follow-up and monitoring system is organized by the following categories: seniors, families, workers, and youth.
VISITATION
Church members who need visitation can contact the visitation team.
